12-hydroxystearic acid ‌ is an important organic compound whose uses and synthesis are as follows:
 
Purpose:
‌1, Preparation of rust resistant greases ‌ : 12-hydroxystearic acid can be used to prepare rust resistant greases, which are an important industrial application and help protect metal surfaces from corrosion and wear.
‌2, as an organic intermediate ‌ : It can also be used as an intermediate in organic synthesis, meaning it can be used as a building block for more complex compounds.
‌3, lubricants, stabilizers, decolorizers, thickeners ‌ : lithium 12-hydroxystearate (a compound made from 12-hydroxystearic acid) is widely used in lubricants, stabilizers, decolorizers, and thickeners in applications ranging from industrial production to everyday consumer products.
 
Synthesis method:
‌1, Castor oil hydrogenation ‌ : 12-hydroxy-stearic acid can be obtained by hydrogenation of castor oil at 185℃ and 5MPa in the presence of nickel-aluminum catalyst. 12-hydroxystearic acid can be obtained by saponification and acidolysis of the reaction products.
This compound plays an important role in industrial production and daily life because of its unique physical and chemical properties and a wide range of application fields. Whether as a base material or an end product, 12-hydroxystearic acid and its derivatives continue to promote scientific and technological progress and industrial development ‌.
